Spring’s Here – Is Your Bike (and You) Ready to Ride?

Winter’s finally in the rearview mirror, and the longer, sunnier days are calling for some epic rides. But if your bike’s been in hibernation for months, don’t just grab your helmet and go—let’s make sure both your wheels and you are road-ready.

Step 1: Give Your Bike a Health Check

A few months of sitting idle can take a toll on your motorbike, scooter, or moped. That’s why it’s crucial to do a quick POWDERS check before hitting the throttle.

POWDERS stands for:

  • Petrol – Got enough fuel? Don’t risk stalling out on your first ride.
  • Oil – Check your oil levels and top up if needed. A well-lubricated engine = a happy engine.
  • Water – If your bike’s got a coolant system, make sure the level’s good and the hoses aren’t cracked.
  • Drivetrain – Give your chain some love with a proper motorbike chain lube. Let it soak in overnight for a smooth ride.
  • Electrics – Lights, indicators, horn—check them all. A dead bulb could get you pulled over.
  • Rubber – Inspect your tyres for splits, bulges, or low pressure. Staying legal? Over 50cc needs at least 1mm tread all around. Under 50cc? The original grooves must still be visible.
  • Stopping (Brakes) – Squeeze the levers. Feel solid? Good. Check the brake pads and discs—if in doubt, get a pro to inspect them.

Bonus Tip: If your bike’s been sitting for months, the battery might be low. Use a bike charger to juice it up—jump-starting from a car can fry your electronics.

Step 2: You Ready for the Ride?
