Driving for better business

Motorcyclists who ride their bikes as part of their job, and their employers, are being urged to check out the great road safety resources available on the Driving for Better Business (DfBB) website.

Driving for Better Business – we’ll forgive them for saying ‘driving’ and not ‘riding’ – is a government-backed road safety initiative that encourages employers to think seriously about their duty of care to staff who drive (and ride!) for work, with advice on how to stay compliant with legislation, improve road safety and reduce risk.

Its work covers everyone who rides as part of their job, and would include bike couriers, delivery riders and specialist groups such as paramedics, among others.

The DfBB website includes guidance on setting up driving for work policies, improving employees’ behaviour while riding and a checklist to ensure company policies meet health and safety and corporate manslaughter regulations.

But it’s not all negative: it also includes advice on how implementing better road safety habits within the workforce make sense, financially, morally and logistically, with lower insurance premiums, reduced maintenance costs and fewer sick days linked to crashes.
