The Safe and Sustainable Travel Team deliver a range of initiatives designed to improve road safety in Barnet. This includes engagement with schools such as pedestrian road safety theatre-in-education, scooter safety training and cycle training. Road safety is also promoted within the wider community through initiatives such as Junior Roadwatch (addressing speeding motorists), SEND independent travel training and car child seat checking. See Barnet Road Safety for more information.
Motorcycle Safety
We recently received funding from the Barnet Prevention Fund to improve road safety outcomes among motorcyclists. In accordance with the theme ‘Reducing Health Inequalities’ the funding will be used to address the vulnerability of motorcyclists and their disproportional involvement in road safety collisions. We look forward to working with 2 Wheels London to promote motorcycle safety among businesses in Barnet.
The funding will also be used to deliver ‘Biker Down’ – a first aid biker safety workshop. Sessions are free and participants receive a high viz vest, First aid kit and a £20 voucher to spend on motorcycle safety gear. We particularly encourage riders who:
- live in or near Cricklewood, Colindale, Hendon or Burnt Oak/Edgware areas
- receive benefits or are on a low income
- are delivery riders
